State of Electronics
This is a documentary series about the art and science of electronics and how it coincided with the modern formation of our society. Electronics starts out as digital in telegraphy in what has been dubbed the “Victorian Internet”. It then changes state to analogue with advent of the valve and Lee De Forest’s “triode”, becoming Radio … later Television. Transistors change it’s form in the 50’s and 60’s into “solid state”. Integrated circuits herald another change with the miniaturisation of hardware and the “space race” in the late 60’s and 70’s. The advent of electronic calculators, computers and micro controllers bring about the true digital age, with computational and computer programming changing the “state of electronics” into both hardware and software. The internet is born, forever changing what electronics means to most. The trailer highlights a series of short interviews and discussions that showcases the practice and trends in electronics throughout its short history. These never before seen interviews and historical accounts of innovations are set to reveal the extraordinary feats of some of most revolutionary men and women of an ever-changing and evolving industry.
This video was released some time ago to introduce “The State of Electronics” as a documentary. However, due to the vast amount of content already recorded, over the coming months we have decided it would be better to release sections of it as a weekly discussion. These videos will cover a huge range of subjects, from a large selection of participants recorded over a 4 year period. It’s a subject dear to our hearts and perhaps not wholly understood. You can view the complete series to date here on our YouTube Channel.
